Volunteer Prince William maintains a list of the volunteer opportunities available throughout greater Prince William. Every week, they issue a call to action, listing current opportunities.

Outdoor Festivals

Christmas in July Festival is Saturday, July 20, 3:00-10:00 p. m. on Main Street in Manassas.  This fun family day is sponsored by the Philadelphia Tavern and Sinistral Brewing to support the Un-Trim-A-Tree Holiday Gift Program for needy kids in our community.  Please come join the free fun with music, auction items, Santa Claus and food.  Volunteers age 21 + are also needed to pour beer.  Two shifts available: 3:00-6:30 p. m. and 6:30-10:00 p. m.  Please email Mary if you can help.

The Independence Empowerment Center is hosting their Annual ADA Fair on Saturday, July 27 at the Harris Pavilion in Old Town Manassas. They’ll be celebrating the 26th Anniversary of the Americans with Disability Act.  Come learn about all the resources for individuals and families.  And it’s free!

Save the Date: Sunday, Sept. 8. The Walk to Fight Suicide will be held in Manassas. Please register at afsp.org/Manassas.

Walk to End Alzheimer’s is Saturday, Oct. 19 in Manassas. Volunteers are needed to help with set up, clean up, refreshments, advocacy, route monitoring or the finish line brigade.  Gather your friends and families to join in the event. Please email Ben to learn more. 

Working with Youth and Children

The David J. Cobb Foundation provides back to school supplies to kids at Yorkshire Elementary School.  Volunteers are needed bake goodies for their Bake Sale on July 20 in Occoquan or to sell baked goods and drinks. They need 50 brownies, 100 chocolate chip cookies, 100 bottles of water, 200 cups of lemonade 100 oatmeal cookies and 100 of your favorite cookies.  Please email Kimberly if you can help.

Girls on the Run Northern Virginia is looking for volunteer coaches for the fall 2019 season. You will be trained to facilitate the easy to follow curriculum with small groups of girls in grades 3-8, twice a week for 10 weeks. The program runs from Sept. 23-Nov. 24 to inspire girls to be strong, confident and healthy.  Please email Meagan to learn more.

Youth for Tomorrow is looking for volunteers age 21+ who can share their hobby with a teen on the weekends. Help bring joy to a teen’s life with your hobby such as sewing, photography, cross stitch, painting, arts, sign language, song, dance, cooking.  Please visit their website to register.

Office Volunteers Needed

Community Services needs a volunteer to help them for a couple of days to clean out and organize file cabinets at their Manassas location. Please call Angie at (703) 792-7737 to learn more and schedule.

Outdoor Volunteering

Prince William Soil & Water Conservation District needs volunteers at these fun projects: August 3 at Broad Run/Dawkins Branch.  Please RSVP to Sonnie or text 7032166959. August 10 at Manassas National Battlefield for the NOVA Water Quality Monitors Certification Training.  Come learn how to be Certified Stream Monitor.  Please email Veronica to register and learn more.

Food and Meal Delivery

Food for Others needs volunteers to pick fresh fruit and vegetables at Hollin Farm to distribute to families in need.  They work every Sunday, July 14 through Oct. 20.  Please register here.

The Retired and Senior Volunteer Program is looking for volunteers age 55+ to deliver noon meals through the Meals on Wheels Program.  Shifts are just two to three hours and available throughout the area.  RSVP members receive a mileage reimbursement and additional insurance coverage at no cost to the volunteer.  Please call Jan at (571) 292-5307 to learn more.

The Arts

The Kennedy Center needs volunteers for their new ART tour greeter position. You will be the front of the house greeter for all the concert halls and theaters. You need to be physically fit to open doors, stand in one location or go up and down stairs. Training will be provided. Please email them to learn more.

Miscellaneous Opportunities

The Virginia Cooperative Extension is looking for volunteers to teach their Master Financial Educator programs. You’ll learn all kinds of financial management skills for yourself to teach others. Please register here, or to learn more email smartmoney@pwcgov.org.

BEACON for Adult Literacy is gearing up for the fall semester and is looking for tutors to work with small groups. No second language or teaching experience needed.  The fall semester starts Aug. 26 with volunteer training on either Aug. 3 or 17 from 8:30 a. m.-2:30 p. m.
