Provided by Virginia Railway Express (VRE)
The Virginia Railway Express (VRE) Operations Board consists of representatives from the nine jurisdictions that support the commuter railroad and Commonwealth of Virginia. Serving as the advisory body to the Northern Virginia Transportation Commission and Potomac and Rappahannock Transportation Commission, which are co-owners of VRE, the Operations Board makes recommendations with respect to the railway’s management, financing, and acquisition of property. The May agenda includes:
Endorsement of Prince William County Commuter Outreach Funding Application
The board is asked to endorse Prince William County’s funding application for a mobility education campaign and transportation demand management project in the I-395/I-95 corridor through the Commuter Choice program. The program will promote alternatives to single-occupant vehicle commuting, such as VRE.
Agreement Extension for VRE Track Access
The board is asked to recommend to VRE’s owners* that they authorize the Chief Executive Officer to execute a one-year extension of VRE’s operating/access agreement with CSX Transportation (CSXT) through June 30, 2020. This will allow VRE, CSXT and the Virginia Department of Rail and Public to identify potential capacity improvement projects, including construction of a third track, and funding sources for inclusion in a long-term agreement.
