The HOV lanes on I-395 from the Springfield Interchange to the Washington, D.C. line will be closed this weekend beginning on Friday evening, Aug. 17 until no later than 4:00 a. m. on Monday, Aug. 20. Lane closures also will occur on the general purpose lanes this weekend during overnight hours. These closures are needed to accommodate ongoing construction on the I-395 Express Lanes Northern Extension, and will continue to be implemented when needed during upcoming weekends.
The initial phase of bridge deck improvement work that required a series of weekend day and nighttime lane closures on the I-395 general purpose and HOV lanes was completed ahead of schedule last weekend. Additional similar lane closures will be needed to complete bridge rehabilitation efforts along I-395, but will be scheduled in the coming months.
The 395 Express Lanes, slated to open in late 2019, will extend the current express lanes eight miles north to the D.C. line through a public-private partnership between the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) and Transurban.
