WeWork Takes Space in Two Douglas Development Properties

Collaborative, workspace provider opens first Washington, DC locations at Wonder Bread Factory and in Chinatown

Washington, DC – September 17, 2013 – Douglas Development today announced that it has signed two leases with the New York-based entrepreneurial hub, WeWork, which projects opening its first two Washington, DC locations before the end of the year. WeWork will occupy 32,903 square feet in the historic Wonder Bread Factory, located at 641 South Street, NW; and 21,350 square feet at 718 7th Street, NW in Chinatown.

WeWork meticulously scouts cities for premier locations to open contemporary, custom-designed workspaces where startups, small businesses and creative professionals can interact and collaborate in one space.

Douglas Development Principal, Norman Jemal says, “We are very excited to welcome WeWork to DC and couldn’t imagine two better buildings for their first Washington, DC locations.” Jemal continues, “DC is becoming increasingly entrepreneurial-driven and we believe WeWork’s new DC office spaces will encourage more people to launch and grow businesses in the District.”

Originally built in 1913, Douglas Development’s newly redeveloped Wonder Bread Factory building offers a unique, class A loft-style environment with 82,000 rental square feet. The four-story property includes private terraces, underground parking, high ceilings, large glass windows, exposed brick and wood beam ceiling system, and an abundance of natural light.
