Youth Orchestras of Prince William’s (YOPW) Music Director and Youth Symphony Orchestra Conductor Mrs. Anne Rupert and her staff of conductors present “Winter Wonderland.

After a week full of snow adventures, this concert is truly a Winter Wonderland.  As we continue our 2015-2016 season, New Beginnings, YOPW young musicians are musically challenged by more complex pieces expanding their musicianship.  The audience will be fascinated by the talented young musicians of the Prince William region.

The centerpiece of the Winter Wonderland Concert is The Youth Symphony Orchestra lead by Conductor Rupert presenting Bizet’s L’Arlésienne Suite No. 2 and Beethoven’s Symphony No. 1 in C Major, Op. 21.

Winter Wonderland will also feature the youngest YOPW string ensemble.  Preparatory Orchestra, conducted by Lisa Kline, will present Rain Drop Serenade by Lauren Bernofsky and Concerto for Triangle by Mike Hanniken. YOPW’s Youth Chorus, lead by Conductor Christen Reddig, will open the concert with When I Close My Eyes by Jim Papoulis, and an Irish Folk Song, Mairi’s Wedding,arranged by Bob Chilcot, among others.  The program continues with Primo Orchestra lead by Conductor Drew Lisowski, presenting Snow (Yuki) arranged by Brendan McBrien and Kabuki Dancearranged by Richard Meyer. Leading the Repertory Orchestra, Conductor Phaedra Long will featureAfter the Rain by Susan Day, Brahms Hungarian Dance No. 5, and the fourth movement of Mozart’sSymphony No. 10 in G Major.  Concert Orchestra Conductor, Gerald Fowkes, will present Petit Suite byAndré Amellér, Capriole Suite by Peter Warlock and Mozart’s Jupiter Symphony, arranged by Merle J. Isaac. Finally, Wind Symphony Conductor, Joseph LaBrie, will present Canterbury Walk by Carol Stommen, Fanfare and Hymn of Celebration by Paul Lavender and Dances Terpsichore by Chris Sharp.
