Congressman Rob Wittman (VA-01) released the following statement today after Congressman Robert Hurt (VA-05) announced that he would not seek reelection to Congress at the end of this term:

“Robert Hurt is a gentleman and a friend. During these past five years, he has served the Fifth Congressional District and the Commonwealth of Virginia with dedication and humility. Robert and I served together in the Virginia General Assembly, and he has always shared my view that, as public servants, it is our first responsibility to find solutions that work for the men and women who make this state what it is. PWL It has been an honor and a privilege to work with someone who understands our Constitutional foundation and has committed himself fully to preserving the American way of life. I know Robert will continue to serve his community and the Commonwealth as he returns to private life, and I look forward to working with him during the remainder of the 114th Congress.”

Congressman Rob Wittman represents the 1st District of Virginia. He serves on the House Natural Resources Committee and the House Armed Services Committee, where he is Chairman of the Readiness Subcommittee.
