Woodbridge, Virginia- Local resident Christopher Baity, founder of Semper K9 Assistance Dogs, has been featured in People Magazine’s June 19th issue. Baity, an OEF/OIF USMC combat veteran and military working dog handler, founded Semper K9 in 2014 with his wife, Amanda. Together, with the help of almost 100 volunteers, they operate the 501(c)(3) rescuing dogs and custom training them to be service dogs for disabled service members at no cost.
People’s ‘Heroes Among Us’ feature also promotes the American Heroes Channel Red Bandanna Hero Award, which Christopher won in 2016. People recently joined with the American Heroes Channel and the Welles Remy Crother Charitable Trust, named for the young stock trader who died saving lives during the 9/11 terrorist attacks in New York City, to find and celebrate such heroes across the U.S.
“Winning the Red Bandanna Award was a humbling experience,” says Baity. “I hope I can continue to inspire those around me, by continuing our mission, helping those in need. Just as Welles did.”
Since 2014, Semper K9 has paired and worked with over 30 service dog/veteran teams, providing them with the support they need to enhance their quality of life and that of their families. “Our tagline is ‘From Shelter to Service’ because it is important to us to utilize rescue dogs.” Baity continues. “Being featured in People not only highlights Semper K9’s mission but also helps showcase other organizations who are doing similar work.”
“We are the only organization in this area providing these types of programs and quality service dogs at no cost, as well as one of the few in the country.” said Baity.
