Woodbridge High School’s Viking Pride Food Pantry is the only on-campus food pantry in Prince William County. It directly benefits the students at Woodbridge High School. Recently, students and teachers toured the food pantry to learn about how it works, and how it benefits the Viking Village.

“Service matters—no matter how small or big. Family takes care of family, and Woodbridge High School is a family,” remarked Key Club Sponsor and Teacher Margaret Evans.

Operated by the Key Club, the pantry is a year-round program that is ready to support students and their families in any situation. All distributions are 100 percent confidential. Distribution needs are overseen by the school’s social worker, Seth Solondz, and other members of the school’s administration team.

Speaking to the visiting students, Solondz encouraged students to let their friends know about the pantry orto speak to him, another administrator, or a teacher they trust. “As their friends, you are likely to be more aware of their needs than we are.  We will confidentially work to ascertain their needs and how we can provide support,” said Solondz.

The Viking Pride Pantry provided entire Thanksgiving dinners with a 20-pound turkey and all the sides to 20 families. This success has encouraged the Key Club to expand the program to families of students at some of the local schools in the immediate area.

Students and families in need can receive food, clothing, toiletries, school supplies, and books (recently added) from the Viking Pride Pantry. All items that are distributed from the pantry are donations collected and sorted by Key Club members.

Members of the community who wish to contribute to the Viking Pride Pantry should call the school’s office to schedule a drop-off.
