Novant Health UVA Health System has named Al Pilong, Jr. senior vice president and CEO. Pilong will begin his new role on April 1.
“Al has a proven track record in executive-level oversight of the operational, financial and strategic activities for a number of medical centers and health systems,” said Jeff Lindsay, executive vice president and chief operating officer of Novant Health. “I am pleased to welcome him to our team and I am confident he will lead the organization forward in the years to come.”
Pilong joins Novant Health UVA Health System from Munson Healthcare in Traverse City, Michigan. He most recently served as president of Munson Medical Center and chief operating officer of Munson Healthcare. During his time with Munson Healthcare, Pilong led the organization to receive an “A” Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade, a magnet designation for nursing, for the third time. The organization also received accreditation as a Blue Distinction Center for cardiac care, maternity care, and knee and hip replacement, among other awards and recognitions.
Prior to his role with Munson Healthcare, Pilong served as the president of Winchester Medical Center and senior vice president of Valley Health in Winchester.
Pilong holds a Master of Business Administration from Saint Joseph’s University, a Master of Divinity from Alliance Theological Seminary and a Bachelor of Science from the Rutgers University Ernest Mario School of Pharmacy. He also completed an executive management program at the University of Pennsylvania Leonard Davis Institute of Health Economics in Philadelphia. Pilong holds board certification in healthcare management as a fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives.
