Brentsville Trail and Park Cleanup: Saturday, Sept. 5, 9:30 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Get an early start for World Cleanup Day! Join staff and volunteers along the hiking trail and around the grounds at Brentsville Courthouse Historic Centre to remove a variety of invasives. If you can pull your shoestrings, you have the skills to help pull destructive invasive Japanese honeysuckle vines. Cutting damaging English ivy vines requires a skill like cutting a partially cooked potato.
No experience or knowledge needed. Wear closed toe shoes, long pants, and a long sleeve shirt. Bring work gloves and a hat that can get dirty. If you have a favorite clipper, pruner or sturdy rake, bring it.
Meet in the parking lot of Brentsville Courthouse Historic Centre at 12229 Bristow Road, Bristow. Please no pets. This is a good opportunity for scout and student volunteer hours.

Labor of Love: Saturday, Sept. 5, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Join the Town of Dumfries in their Labor of Love program! Through Labor of Love, The Town of Dumfries brings together Town departments, volunteers, civic and faith-based organizations, and local businesses to provide limited minor home repairs and safety-focused property improvements for qualifying residents within the corporate limits of the Town of Dumfries. This program helps improve the safety, dignity, and stability of neighbors in need.
The location to meet is at 17757 Main St., Dumfries – Jeff Simpson Community Center
Arrival time: 7:45 a.m. The event is 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Lunch will be provided.

Fall Festival at Leopold’s Preserve: Saturday, Sept. 19, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Presented through a partnership of the White House Farm Foundation and the Northern Virginia Conservation Trust, this family-friendly event celebrates the beauty of fall.
The Fall Festival will feature booths hosted by dozens of environmental organizations, food vendors, and local artisans. KPWB will also be offering a raffle with exciting nature-themed prizes!
Accessibility Notes: van-accessible parking spots will be available. Many of the booths will be located along the paved ADA-compliant wetland trail. Additional booths will be located along a portion of the wetland trail with a surface of hard-packed earth. Food trucks and restrooms, including an ADA-compliant portable toilet, will be located in the gravel parking lots. Cement is one of the most-used manmade materials in the world. And the kilns that produce this in-demand building material belch about 8 percent of the global carbon dioxide emissions.
But a team from ETH Zurich and the US company Heirloom Carbon Technologies now propose a way to dramatically cut emissions from future cement factories. By employing established technologies, cement factories could not only capture their own emissions, the researchers write in the journal Chem Circularity, but also remove additional carbon dioxide from the atmosphere
