As PTSD Awareness Month comes to a close, today marks the final opportunity to support a campaign that is changing the lives of local veterans one service dog at a time.
Throughout June, Semper K9 has highlighted the daily realities faced by veterans living with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) while sharing stories of hope, healing, and renewed independence made possible through highly trained service dogs.
For many veterans, recovery is measured in moments that others might take for granted: sleeping through the night without recurring nightmares, feeling comfortable in crowded places, reconnecting with family and friends, attending appointments with confidence, or simply regaining the independence to navigate everyday life.
Those milestones often become possible through the partnership between a veteran and a professionally trained service dog. A Semper K9 service dog provides much more than companionship. These dogs are specially trained to recognize signs of anxiety, interrupt panic episodes, create personal space in public, and provide emotional grounding during difficult moments. Their presence helps many veterans regain confidence and restore a sense of normalcy that PTSD has taken away.
Training each service dog requires thousands of hours of work, extensive resources, and the support of a caring community. Donations help cover veterinary care, food, training equipment, specialized instruction, and the many months required to prepare each dog for placement with a veteran.
As part of its “Sponsor Peace of Mind” campaign, Semper K9 is encouraging supporters to give at any level. Every contribution helps move another service dog closer to changing a veteran’s life.
Examples of the impact include:
- $25 provides training supplies for a future service dog.
- $100 covers one week of food and care for a dog in training.
- $500 helps fund advanced task training that teaches dogs to mitigate PTSD symptoms.
- $20,000 sponsors the complete training and placement of a fully trained service dog with a veteran.
While those giving levels demonstrate tangible impacts, donations of every size help advance the organization’s mission.
For veterans living with PTSD, a service dog can provide something that is difficult to measure but invaluable to experience: peace of mind.
